I think whispernet is a registered trademark of amazon. you may want to just drop the er from your net name before amazon sends you a sies and desist letter.

Yeah, it's a shame it was taken several years ago without my knowledge, so yeah, I'm going to change the name of this network to Whisper-Echo-Net, WEN for short. I've got to make other changes to my infopacks and names on the system, but yeah, thanks for letting me know about that. I really liked that name too, oh well. :) I have plans to get the size of the network bigger and I want it to expand so that's what we'll do.

I'm getting pretty close. The FTN portion of Whisper-Echo-Net is now working as well as QWK networking with Synchronet. I've been tinkering with BinkD (the mailer) and I've learned quite a bit in the last few days.

If you haven't already and this applies to those interested in the network, fill out the Whispet-Echo-Net application at:

    http://vintagebbsing.com/whisper.ssjs

That way I have you on file, basic information about your system to keep track of who participates.

No offense, but I am guessing amazon doesn't give two shits about what is happening on BBSes nowdays. Usally when a company sends a cease and desist it's to a high profile website that is trying to copy their ideas.

I got your application and I'm ready to move forward. I sent an e-mail to both e-mail addresses you provided in the application, but I haven't heard from you yet. I figured I would write here since I know you're able to get messages here. The first e-mail was sent to your mockingbird e-mail which came back and bounced. The alternate e-mail seem to went through, so you might check that when you get a chance.

Yeah, and I have a website (the application website) for Whisper-Echo-Net that dates back to 2011. I had WhisperNet going before that. I'm linked with Amazon, and it wouldn't suprise me if they took the name from me in the first place. I don't know, I don't need the crap so I just changed the name to Whisper-Echo-Net.

    I'll work on that tomorrow....

I sent out a netmail to you from my BBS (1:298/6) but have yet to get a reply. If a reply had been sent, it's lost in cyberspace. We'll get things moving, just got to get pass these little things.

I replied to you... must have zoomed somewhere. What I answered was send me all the particulars, node addy, your IBN and a list of your echos. I think we already setup an areafix pw. Also, for now I'll just be taking echos. Files and the games will be for the future.

BTW, I added your smtp to the exempt cfg. Hopefully that will resolve it.

Talk later... it's 80 degrees here and I need some wind therapy!!

I have this noted here what you had requested. I have to get some communication between both our systems before we can proceed. I am sending you a netmail now to your Fidonet address to see if you receive it. Please reply when you see it, or if you don't see it within a day or so let me know here to what we can do. I need to add you to the nodelist so I don't have a WEN node number for you yet. Since the WEN FTN is fairly new, I'm figuring out a system where I can use people's area code with part of their number so it would look something like 36:973/2 which is what I think I'll have as your node number. Don't put it in your system yet or write it in stone. Let's get communication working first. I still have your application on file. I apologize for the time it's take to get this issue resolved. It seems communication between our systems has set us back since the 27th of May which is when I got your app. So please continue to bare with me as we resolve this issue. Watch out for a netmail from me. :)

BTW, I added your smtp to the exempt cfg. Hopefully that will resolve
    it.

I'll try to make another step and send you another e-mail as well as a netmail to see if you can get that. AT&T is my ISP and they use Yahoo! as their e-mail provider so it's made it more difficult than it should be. I haven't had any problem with anyone else with my yahoo provider so this is relatively new to me. I'll keep it in mind for future reference to use google instead.

Talk later... it's 80 degrees here and I need some wind therapy!!

It's currently 63F tonight and was in the lower 70s this afternoon so we've had pretty good weather with a very mild wind here in Kansas.

We'll talk later. Have a good one!

Jon, I saw you connected last evening about 11:30pm but no transfer of anything. By any chance did you use the areafix password as a session level password as well? If so, remove it and let's get talking first, we can put one together later.

BTW, I added your smtp to the exempt cfg. Hopefully that will resolve

OK.. seems there are many smtp servers Yahoo uses. I wildcarded it so you should be able to get through now. (God, I hate giving yahoo that much... lol!!)

It was gorgeous here... high 80's but the humidity sucked. I can take 115F in Arizona with 25% RH rather than 90F with 95% RH... either way, when your riding.. who cares!! :)

Come join in on WhisperNet QWK/FTN network and add it to your BBS. It's friendly atmosphere and growing. Below is a link to the infopack. There plenty of categories to chose from, we're here for you!

Thanks, I'll check the link out tonight. Always nice to have new Message Bases.

Hey Tech-D, did you get a chance to check out Whisper-Echo-Net yet? I tried logging in your board without success. Let me know what you think. TTYL. :)

No offense, but I am guessing amazon doesn't give two shits about what is happening on BBSes nowdays. Usally when a company sends a cease and desist it's to a high profile website that is trying to copy their ideas.

    just my 2 cents.

    - Dribble

I completely agree with them not giving two shits; however, in order for a com. pany to retain a trademark from becoming a general term they are required to send a cease and desist lettler no matter how benign the threat.

What happened to Stepping Stone, BTW?

I upgraded my ISP and had to move it to a virtual server because my
current setup won't allow port forwarding so I'm not able to run any
of my BBSes on my personal computer.

The reason I upgraded is because my current ISP is an amenity to me
from my land lord free of charge and a current speed of 1Gbit/sec up/downstream. Another reason, my previous ISP was raised the price
for internet. It was either pay more for a slow service or get a
free connection free of charge and move my BBS to a vServer.

I'll see if I can get Tradewars 2002 working on Linux, however, the
newer kernels of linux has issues with DOSEMU, a dos emulator to
    run the door game.

If anyone has a suggestion on to how I can get TW2002 to work with
DOSEMU on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (64-bit), thanks in advance.

I set up a Virtualbox instance of an older version of debian (actually devuan) that is cli only and is just old enough to have the proper version of
dosemu and the kernal to allow TW2002 to work. As best as I can tell, you
also have to run the BBS on that Virtualbox instance (unless you are setting
    up TWGS, maybe?).

I tried different ways and that was the only way I could get it to work.

I am using Devuan Jessie and dosemu 1.4.0.7+201301 under Virtualbox 5 on an Ubuntu 18.04.4 box.
