• Local Yocal BBS - 1GB Int

    From Weed Hopper@VERT/LOCALYOC to DOVE-Net.Advertisements on Friday, June 08, 2012 04:54:00
    Hi all,

For any of those interested, the Local Yocal BBS will be going offline sometime Monday morning, 6/11/12.

This will be a temporary outage that I hope will last a week or less.

The server on which the BBS is hosted is being shipped to a colo facility,
and will be brought back online as soon as it arrives.

Once the server comes back online it will be connected to the Internet via a 1GB premium blended bandwidth connection using such providers as Level3,
    etc.

I've performed speed tests from this location and can download a 1GB file in approximately 14 seconds, so it will be a noticably faster connection. :)

I'll post another message once the BBS is back online, so stop by and check
    it out.

If you're interested in hosting your BBS in this facility with a 1GB
Internet connection, or you have other hosting needs, let me know. I can
    offer some great deals!

Happy BBS'ing and hope to see you at the Local Yocal!

    Regards,

    Mark

And I thought I was hard core running my BBS on a old IBM Netfinity 6000r
    lol..
How much file storage does this BBS have? Can I use it for a remote file database for my BBS?

I'm doing other stuff with the server, and I already have the rack space.
All it cost me is the shipping...
Now I have a fast connection and I don't have to listen to the server noise.
If it wasn't free for me, I wouldn't be doing it. :)

I've got some free space. The server it's on only cost $275.00 delivered,
and I needed it for other things, so I threw the BBS on it as well...
I was running the BBS on my laptop when I first brought it back online...

Basically what I'm doing with kingcoder.net, I'm paying a monthly virtual
hosting that allows me to run my own operating system, any servers I want,
login via telnet and develop software, etc. And at the moment, all it's doing
is Synchronet. I have binkd running, but it doesn't seem to connect, so I
manually connect using rexw on my desktop and transfer the files over.

Hey guy, check out KF5QEO in about a week and a half to two weeks. It will eventually change to General ;-) Sorry, couldn't handle the extra class, and the test was really giving me a headache. Had I been feeling better and not come close to having a heat stroke, I might have done a little better on the extra, but there was seriously some hard questions about things I've never heard of! The General test managed to pull out about 4-5 questions that I've yet to run across on QRZ as well, but...

I hated running it on my laptop.
every time I got paged I couldnt remmember which drawer of my desk the bbs was in.
And running it on the server will help? I know the problem, because I used
to have a user who liked to chat, I had the BBS running on a server and often remote-controlled the server.... Had to remove a bunch of junk, then hobble over to the desk, remove all the stuff, pull out the keyboard, look for the key to initiate chat, only to find he just wanted to chew the fat and was bored. UGH!!!! I thought there was a serious problem! So I hobbled back to the bed when I had a serious flare up of the gout, got back in bed and took more pain medicine and went to sleep....
